A Day in the Life of Mr. Nurse: More Than Just Music
Have you ever wondered what life is like for a band teacher? For Mr. Nurse, teaching music is about much more than learning notes and playing instruments. It is about creativity, friendship, and helping students discover who they are. We interviewed Mr. Nurse to learn more about his life, interests, and what makes teaching band so special to him. Mr. Nurse has many hobbies outside of school. He enjoys spending time with his children, reading, playing video games, playing tennis, and writing music. He has a wonderful family, including his fiancée, Jenny, and their three children, Vinny, Luna, and Jack. He also has a brother, a sister, and a couple of cousins.
When it comes to his favorite books, he enjoys The Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Southern Reach series. He also likes the movie The Tree of Life, the show Adventure Time, and anime. If he could be any crayon color, he would choose forest green because it reminds him of the beauty of nature. But why did Mr. Nurse decide to become a band teacher? When he was growing up, he was shy and scared of many things. He was even thinking about quitting band! However, his mom encouraged him to give it one more year in high school. That decision changed his life. He found friends, a sense of belonging, and a passion for music.
Now, he wants to give his students the same opportunity to express themselves without fear or judgment. Mr. Nurse loves teaching music because he believes it is one of the most powerful forces on the planet. Music can reach people no matter who they are, and it has helped him through some of the hardest times in his life. He also enjoys being creative, working with talented musicians, and having fun with his students. Outside of music, Mr. Nurse enjoys following tennis and watching Detroit Red Wings and Tigers games. If he could take the bands anywhere for a field trip, he would choose Europe! He would love for students to perform in historic concert halls where famous composers once played.
When asked what advice he would give his students, Mr. Nurse reminded them that even on their worst days, they are creative, cared for, and capable of doing great things. He encourages everyone to love life, make music, and lean on people they trust. He also said you need to listen to Baz Luhrmann’s Everybody's Free! Finally, we asked Mr. Nurse how long he would survive a zombie apocalypse. He thinks he would last a long time! His plan would be to stay organized, prepare for danger, build a safe place, and work with others to rebuild society.
As you can see, Mr. Nurse is much more than a band teacher. He is someone who wants to help students grow both musically and personally. His story reminds us that sometimes, trying something one more time can open up a whole new world!
